Steve
Elder is a keynote speaker and a coach who
works with individuals and corporate teams. He
draws on personal and professional experiences
from twenty years in the financial services
industry, to challenge those he works with to
begin living in earnest, with passion, and to
see life through a different lens.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Steve
lives in Murfreesboro, TN with his wife and two
teenage children.
How Much More Longer? is his first book.
Just
after graduating high school, Steve was hit
head-on by a drunk driver resulting in a near
fatal car crash. With time, the physical wounds
healed but the most damaging ones – those to his
self-image, belief system and worldview – were
neither identified nor treated. For more than a
decade, his life appeared on track to the
outside world and to himself. He did what he
thought he was supposed to be doing; he
graduated from college, got married, had two
kids, played golf on the weekend with buddies
and launched a successful career. It was only
when he formed close ties with a group of men in
a small group that he began to see that he had
been living in auto-pilot, without clear
direction. He felt alone, empty and stuck.
By
sharing his story in the small group and later
with a wider audience, Steve learned that many
people have the same worries, secret thoughts,
and personal battles. While not everyone has
gone through a car wreck, they are equally
damaged, without direction and in need of
healing.
The prescribed remedy is simple and within
everyone’s reach. One must have the courage to
be vulnerable, share of oneself and receive
others in turn. Change neither happens quickly
nor in a vacuum. It requires time, patience and
community. The process begins by asking oneself
hard, probing questions such as those posed in
his coaching sessions, speeches and book
How Much More Longer?.
By awakening the soul and choosing one’s path
with intention, everyone is capable of achieving
the highest levels in one’s personal,
professional and spiritual lives.
